Reflection Essay 3

The Rhetorical Analysis essay has taught me the most about communication and evaluating the text. I was able to use my past research information from the Argument Proposal paper. I really enjoyed writing topics that interested me. My topic was about high school bullying. I see people getting bullied or bullied in high school even if it’s not physically. So I looked forward to researching more about bullying and how to prevent it. I’m delighted to say I came to a better understanding of the roots of bullying and how to prevent it.

My goals for the future is to enjoy writing while following the rubric. I enjoy writing essays but starting the process has not always been easy. But once I get started, I find myself enjoying the process of researching the topic and writing about it. I like that we were able to pick a topic that interested us because I was able to write freely. This class especially has made me realize researching and writing about a certain topic can be fun.

Even though I enjoy writing, I still struggle a little bit. I would say I have grammar issues to make my essay flow. It might be because English is my second language. I struggle with such things as finding the fancier word to add instead of basic words. And also placing commas and matching nouns/pronouns. I would find myself searching for synonyms of certain words in every essay. For example, I often search for a different word for “like” and use them in my essay. I also find it difficult to find sentence starters to make my essay proceed better. Those sentence starters are a necessity to my essay because it helps transition my paper from explaining the big picture to showing the same ideas. However, I was able to do a lot of research and used the blackboard to help me prepare for my essay.

I have always used APA citations in my AP Research class in highschool. Therefore, it was hard for me to transition back to MLA citation. I especially struggle with MLA citations in my Rhetorical Analysis essay. Professor Hammett has informed me to use MLA citations several times in the feedback of my essay. For example, I always put the year after the last name of the author instead of the page number. Fortunately, I was able to overcome this by reaching out to Professor Hammett. I also use my resources such as the example page in the citation folder or going to zeterobib to rebuild MLA citations.

Although there were plenty of mistakes in my Rhetorical Analysis essay, I am proud of the improvement that I have made. I was able to identify my mistakes thanks to peers and Professor Hammett. and try to correct the issue for my future essays. The mistakes that were identified by Professor Hammett on the Rhetorical Analysis has made my essay easier to follow for the audience. This research essay has helped me learn how to prevent bullying. Which includes involving in anti-social clubs, learning new strategies and promoting being kind. It also assists me in writing quality paper by placing my commas, nouns/pronouns correctly and citing in the correct format. Most importantly, I managed to bring my writing skills up with minimal corrections and learned new knowledge to use in the real world.
